Home school students
- A KMEA member may register the band, choir, or orchestra program in the school in which they teach, and students who attend that school are eligible to participate in KMEA-sponsored student activities. The all-state orchestra rules state “During the audition process and during the conference, string students must be members in “good standing” of their high school orchestra for credit class if an orchestra class exists in their school. If orchestra is not offered as a class at the school, the school band or choir director may become the director-of-record for that student.”
- A homeschool, in the eyes of KMEA (much like the Kentucky Department of Education), is a school. Students who attend that school may not be thought of as attending the school in whose district they live, or any other school. Every student must be thought of as attending the school where they receive their academics. Therefore, the home school’s orchestra program” must be registered with KMEA by a KMEA member who teaches there. There is a form and fee for this.
